Landlords battle city because of tenants’ rights bill

The Rent Stabilization Association (RSA) in Manhattan, NY filed a lawsuit against the city yesterday, Aug. 19, 2008. They are fighting the Tenant Protection Act, which allows residents to sue their landlords for harassment. (YAY!) The RSA represents the landlords of rent regulated buildings, and they attempt to stymie the legislation. The law passed last March and RSA is claiming that the City Council crossed the line. They say only State Legislature can change the jurisdiction of Civil Court. The RSA seems to be blowing smoke up the asses of tenants as they claim 10 laws already exists to handle what the TPA claims to cover.

Since when were they so concerned about how busy the courts would be? Suck it up RSA! There are shitty landlords who harass and threaten their tenants monthly. City Council Speaker, Christine Quinn, stated that she will stand side-by-side the tenants and advocates to sway the verdict their way.

Resignation of Pakistani President Musharraf

Musharraf backed the U.S. to the disappointment of his country. Many citizens celebrated when he made the choice to resign. During a rally in Multan, Pakistan, a poster of President Perez Musharraf burned. This was not all done to spare his country of further embarrassment, but rather to beat the shame of impeachment in parliament. He attempted to impose an authoritarian rule on the country but was stopped short. The former president said that he wanted to spare the nation from a dangerous power struggle. He asked for forgiveness from his country but it seemed like a ploy to salvage his reputation. He has dominated Pakistan since seizing power in the 1999 coup.

Mayor Unbreakable

The removal of Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was blocked at a hearing similar to a trial. The City Council is trying to boot the dishonorable Mayor. A judge found that the city charter did not allow such a power to be given to the council. Kilpatrick should not sigh a relief just get as the misconduct hearing set for September 3rd could still get ousted.

Gay Patients Must Be Served By Docs

Apparently California doctors have been told that they are no longer allowed to use their religious beliefs as excuses not to treat gay or lesbians. The court cited that state law prohibiting sexual orientation discrimination covers the medical world as well. According to the Associated Press, Justice Joyce Kennard addressed that the two Christian fertility doctors were not able to refuse to artificially inseminate a lesbian. Neither could claim free speech rights nor religious exemption from state law.

Wendy Williams TV Picked Up!

Wendy Williams has been picked up for a full season and will be back on the air 2009. The show has actually been an amazing ride. She lets it all hang out and will now be seen nationwide!

More brother fighting among the Jacksons. The brothers have not spoken in three years to Michael and who knows what happened. New Programming Aimed Towards Negros

Master P, along with a board of advisors including Oscar winning Denzel Washington, the legendary DJ Kool Herk, and basket ball player Derek Anderson, believe that more positive programming for Blacks is called for. It is interesting to see people stepping up to the plate because BET has fallen short – tremendously.

New Rules for Plastic Surgery Patients

A new requirement has been put in place that patients must receive a thorough physical check up before getting plastic surgery. This is partially due to the fact that a shady doctor operated on Kanye West’s mom and she passed away. Dr. Donda passes away on the surgical table and now has the Donda West Rule in place once year later in California. She had coronary heart disease, which proved to be a complication. There are reports that state how Dr. Donda West went to another doctor who turned her down from the surgery due to her previous medical condition. She then chose to go to the quack that changed her life. Not much has been said on these allegations.
