Respect My Non-Religious Wishes

Why is it that if a person can claim religious reasons as to not do something the same respect is not given to those who do not follow a religion? Why must I say I’m a Johova Witness to get folks to stop inviting me to holiday dinners looking for gifts from me? Why can I not simply state that I do not want to get caught in the holiday mischief without the round of 101 questions? Why am I looked at as “sad” or “bitter” if I simply want a drink and free food with no obligations? Why am I being disrespectful of your religious neediness if I simply turn down your religious holiday dinner invites? Why are you so desperate for me to recognize your needs as you quickly, and easily disregard mine?

What is wrong with this world that one must take a religious stance in order to avoid doing something? I want to be able to live and not be bombarded with someone else’s wishes and dreams. Alas I know that to be a long shot so I’ll settle for folks simply respecting my non-religious stance as I by-pass holidays and opt for a good, stiff drink. If I can respect your religious chants, why is it so difficult to respect my silence?
