Official: Writers On Strike

Seems like New York is 3-0 when it comes to strikes. Two from a taxi group and now the Writer Guild of America. Unlike the taxi strikes these may actually effect people. Being a world that loves their television shows and news programs what will folks do if this was to last as long as the 1988 strike?

Why this strike? The writers want what everyone in the world wants: MORE MONEY!!!!!! Seems they see what most actors saw in the past – residuals don’t do much. They want a cut in the DVD and internet money. Someone peeked behind that wizards curtain and saw that there is money floating out there. Someone is collecting off these deals, why can’t they get a cut? Ahh, I can hear the poverty cries now from the studio execs. They will be gunning hard for “Online Pirates” and crying how they aren’t making any money because Jackie Kim, Leroy Jackson and Joey O’Reilly are cutting into their profits sharing files for free or handing out $5 DVDs on the boulevard.

What are we to do if we can’t watch General Hospital and Young and the Restless? It’s Sweeps week for goodness sake! Yet again this good explain all the garbage that has been airing on television. Seems that the writers have been in negotiation and the contracts expired Oct. 31st. Could this be the reason we have been stuck with Britney Spears 24/7 coverage? The writers knew they were about to bounce so no need to seek out actual news or storylines?

Even the “new shows” are flooding crap into our homes more than normal. Since the late night talk shows will be effected first why don’t some of them write their own jokes? Are the hosts a part of the WGA too? Hopefully by the time this clears up the good material will be utilized for shows. Can song writers go on strike too? This could help clear the radio waves of the trash they are putting out as well.

There is always a silver lining when all seems lost.
