Obligations

I’m not sure why, but I am constantly drafted for other folks’ causes. Is it because I am of a certain sex and race? Could it be my age? My affiliations? Why should I pledge allegiance to anyone other than myself? Should I not be the selfish bastard I know I can be deep down and remain loyal to myself? Is it because of my brown skin people thought I was an automatic vote for Barack Obama? Is it because I don’t wrap my head in a turban that I should raise my voice for every cause with the name Jesus attached?

Why am I bombarded each day with email prayers? Should I hold my tongue or speak out and be castrated by hypocrites because I don’t believe in what they do? Should I be shocked that those who fail to understand the history of ideals they follow out of loyalty is what has them damned to repeat a lost cause? Should I shut the world out in order to continue to protect myself from those who claim to be “friends” but are truly lambs attempting to drag me to the slaughter?

I won’t be forced to take on your obligations. Fuck the dumbness. I will not turn my brain off in order to allow you to live comfortably. Thanks for the news update on how cruel the world can be, but I was already aboard the Awareness Train.

Walk away and you may be able to continue to sleep through life.
