Very few outside of Jena, Louisiana even know the details of the events that led up to the case that involves the Jena 6 students accused of assaulting a fellow White student. A story of racially charged anger that once again shows it’s face to remind the rest of us that it still exists.
The Jena 6 have been in this struggle to keep themselves out of jail for the past year. As usual the mass media has ignored them until now. What was it that caused them to pay attention? Was it Al Sharpton? Jesse Jackson? or Obama? Did they only pay attention because election year is so close? Does it really matter? Should the Jena 6 just be thankful that they are getting attention if any?
No, they should be even more ready to battle to release Mychal Bell, 17, and ensure that the other five remain out of prison. Why should they even have to go through this? What happened to those who placed the noose on the “White Tree” after Black students sat under it? What is this town only finding the noose to be a “prank” that the rest of us should get over? If we were to get over the prank then why couldn’t the “victim” get over the ass whoppin’ he received? Why is Bell really still in jail? Why is this judge still allowed to remain on the damn bench for this trial? Is he the only one in this town?
I just think that’s not asking too much. Why go through this circus of a trial? Is tourism revenue down that much that this mess needs to continue? An appeals court reversed the aggravated assault charges on all six young men yet this judge still finds it fit to hold Bell in jail without giving real cause. Just a day after a huge show of support for the Jena 6, Judge J.P. Mauffray refused to accept the defense’s motion for a writ of habeas corpus. For all the crap that Louisiana has already been through since Hurricane Katrina you’d think these people had more to focus on but alas that’s not the case.
The justice system feels it’s right to keep Bell in jail since last December on a $90,000 bond that was considered null & void once the conviction was overturned. The prosecution, Reed Walters, feels it’s right to still build this bullshit case on the other five students and Bell, who was only 16 at the time. These were kids who had a fight with another kid and yet they are now being charged as juveniles because the loser in the fight couldn’t hold his own? If the families can remember the strict laws about discussing juvenile cases then why can’t the prosecuting attorney? This case just smells worse and worse by the moment, but as usual in a small town most of the folks want the outside world to look as if they brought the “trouble” to the town.
If that’s the case then the town needs trouble. They need the attention and spotlight to be shown on this crap until these kids are set free. The boy didn’t lose his life. He got knocked the hell out but went to a school ceremony a few hours later. Shake it off bitch! Why am I so harsh on the poor, sad, pitiful “victim”? A year ago a Black student REQUESTED PERMISSION to sit under the ever so precious WHITE TREE but instead three NOOSES were hung under the tree instead. Unless you’re a newborn you’d know that the noose was a threat to the Black kids that even thought about going near the tree. The school’s superintendent quickly dismissed this as a simple prank… HAHAHA….. WTF!? A prank? Maybe at a KKK Rally… That comment pissed off parents and students alike. Well thanks to that ass, fights between kids began to breakout on & off school grounds.
Whenever White kids jumped Black kids Walters ignored it & refused to press charges but when these six Black kids gave this White kids something to think about he wants to become The Citizens Avenger all of a sudden. He charged them with attempted murder at first and then reduced it to aggravated second-degree battery. This is all clearly a one-sided justice system. I wonder if they even “allow” the Blacks to vote in these parts of Louisiana. If they do then they need to realize that changes need to happen and happen quickly.
It’s nice to show solidarity when things like this happen but once something new comes along will the same strength be there? Will the 60,000 plus come to Jena again? Will the others around the nation show up again? Will we ever see the end to situations like these or should we just pipe down and accept our fate for bullshit?
STEP UP folks and don’t even accept less then what you’d give out. This needs to ends – not just simmer down but END!!
