Jesus Christ Superstar: The Musical – Heaven on their Minds (Carl Anderson)

When I heard that there was a play called Jesus Christ Superstar I couldn’t imagine how that would have been performed. Then I saw the original movie. Carl Anderson had me at ‘Hello.’ Not because he was a Negro – but rather his voice was amazingly powerful and he brought the song to everlasting life. The lyrics were strong but hard to imagine anyone else singing it. To test my hypothesis I watched the 2000 remake and was proven correct.

Well the song brings the relationship of Judas and Jesus to the foreground and the conversation that Judas strikes. Judas pleads with his friend, whom he deeply respects, and begs that he reconsiders the growing crowds. Judas is worried that the bandwagon jumpers are getting swept away in the excitement of Jesus and taking Jesus and the immortal story seriously.

Many have reported seeing the Jesus Complex reawaken in 2008. Most could careless about the askari waving in the spotlight, rather it is the sheep following that concerns us deeply. Many cannot afford to this blind loyalty, but alas in times of distrust and difficulty most consume the corrupt in search of comfort. The alert have chosen to reserve our spending power for a new dawn is upon us and change will be costly and painful.

Many will be lost to the slaughter, but they must be sacrificed for the good in shedding the curse of what is about to occur.
