After being told that he wasn’t going to be able to meet more refugees living in a pro-Sudanese government town, US President Carter was not having it. He raised his voice and took on a Sudanese security guard. He was in the country to meet refugees from the ongoing conflict in Darfur. Story has it that some were too frightened to go to the compound where Carter was so he wanted to go to them.
That was not going to happen if the soldier had anything to say about it. A shouting match began and UN Security tried to get Carter out of the area. Even the others with Carter were trying to get him to leave. The UN Officials told him that the Sudanese state police could keep out of the area. I bet that got under his collar.
Ok, it’s cute and all that President Carter has a want/need to help those less fortunate – or show us that they seems to – but you can’t just run up in other people’s country trying to do what you do in the US. Building houses for poor people is one thing; trying to take on an African guard is a whole ‘nother story.
Was he in Louisiana and we all missed him? I’m sorry, I tend to blink and miss things like that every now and then. Maybe he’s helping them rebuild some homes for the displaced Black people who owned their homes and are now living elsewhere. Maybe not, many o those who were able to get out said that they didn’t want to go back anyway so – no harm no foul. Keep fighting the good fight Jimmy!
