September 2009 seems to be the the time when the next step is taken towards making Fahrenheit 451 more of a reality. Slowly society is moving in the direction of wiping out history all over again. First books were being re-written and re-published; then Google changed author’s works into electronic format without permission and forced them to hunt their own materials down and click on “opt-out” options to be removed from the Google gimmick; now libraries across the world are throwing out printed books for electronic versions.

A major problem with this is that this seems to close to Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 novel. Also this makes it too convenient for editors to wipe out information and change meanings of books. What will happen to the books that are not able to or allowed to be transformed into an electronic format? Will those be lost forever? What is the real reason for getting rid of books? Are we falling for the brainwashed reason that we [readers] are too lazy to carry the books around or read them at home?

I”ll keep an eye out for the fire trucks.
