Review: Because of a signed agreement, the posting of this review had to be placed on hold until a studio agreed to release the film to the public. This film has been on hold sine 2007, and now it’s on like Donkey Kong.

Based on a novel by Sapphire with the same name, this film has got to be one of the best films of 2007, 2008, and 2009. Why am I spacing amongst three years? That is about how long this movie has taken to get distribution. In the meantime, Hollywood has not only cock-blocked a great film, but has given it’s name to an action flick created well after it and starring talented, but White Dekota Fanning. Nothing against Fanning as she is simply benefiting from this tragedy, but this needed to be said.
Out of all the movies that can be created one would think movie houses all over would jump at the opportunity to distribute this film, alas it has been played by the usual disEASE – talented Black people.

This movie’s breakout performance belonged to newcomer, Gabourey ‘Gabbie’ Sidibe as Clareece “Precious” Jones, although Mariah Carey and Mo’Nique’s facial hair put up a good fight. Sidibe proved that she would be a force to be reckoned with in young Hollywood as her character drew you in and allowed the audience to experience her growth into adulthood. Mo’Nique was not to be ignored either as her portrayal of Precious’ bitter mother pulled viewers in further. The character was despicable but Mo’Nique’s action was on point! Carey’s role was not significant, however, it was a vast improvement from Glitter. Lenny Kravitz made his acting debut as well and will hopefully stick around if he continues the way he began. Sherri Shepherd was also in this film and thankfully left behind the “dumb brunette” role she usually portrayed on The View. Last, but certainly not least, Paula Patton makes a wonderful appearance with her performance as Ms. Rain, Precious’ teacher who helps the teen change her life. She has done nothing but grow as an amazing actress ever since her debut in 2005′s Hitch.

Distributors need to simply cut the crap and release this film, as it is not only poignant about what has been and is currently happening in society; but the spirit and quality outweighs the rest of the crap playing on screens! This has been one of the few films that did justice for the novel in which it was based on.

10 blades for a remarkable movie and the acing that was displayed. No handcuffs as this was viewed at a special screening in Harlem.

UPDATE: FINALLY – the movie will be released late 2009 (possible November). The name has been changed to help limit the confusion that would occur from the stolen move made hence ‘Precious.’ Either way, a legion of viewers is ready to show more support for an extraordinary film that has been held back for too long.
