Review: I was very curious of what this movie would truly be about and I must say that it was wonderfully done. Sandra Bullock has had some questionable films, but so have many other stars. What had me was that she did not make hearing a Southern accent annoying and had me believing that she could actually be from the South. If anyone says differently, they are not ready to come to grips on how they truly sound; like a White broad from Long Island or a Latina who speaks through her nose like Rosie Perez in White Men Can’t Jump.

Well, the film depicted the relationship and bond between a child from the projects and a White family, the Tuohys who took him in and grew to love him as one of their own. The child turns out to be Michael Oher, the new offensive lineman of the Baltimore Ravens, and was seen as a dumb child. It was the love and dedication of a few adults that helped to change the course of Oher’s life.

Now this could easily be seen as the typical story of Blacks needing Whites to “save” them, but it was a bit more than that. It was a family that was able to see through the prejudices that surrounded them in their community and see a way to not simply love, but motivate a young man into finding things that he would love and is capable of doing. They were not willing to write him off as a dumb Negro and kick him out of their lives.

This film had many layers to it and deserved the attention it received and more. 9 blades to a wonderful film and a great way to help close out the year.
