Review: Remember when folks would get ready for the Saturday Kung Fu matinee that would play on television? When Bruce Lee was the star of Kung Fu? When everyone wanted to learn Kung Fu and kick ass like Bruce Lee? I do and I miss those times. It has been so long since I have seen such an amazing martial arts film and I have a Bootlegged Reviews associate, Zaji, to thank for suggesting this film. This film is a semi-biographical about the man who taught one of the world’s greatest Kung Fu artist to hit the big screen, Bruce Lee. Yip/Ip Man follows the man who kept his skill modest and never sought fame; only attempted to help others live with fear and without fear.

When he was begged to open a Dojo he refused, partly because his wife did not like him fighting so much. He always tried to help his friends if he could and placed his family first. A gang from another part of China showed up in the village to challenge every Dojo teacher and disgrace them. When the leader of this gang heard of the Yip Man’s skills he barged into his home to fight him also. After being humiliated behind closed doors, the gang disappeared from the town.

When Japan invaded, Yip was forced to defend the honor of he slain friend and fight for a bag of rice. This film has shown why Bruce Lee was so good. Donnie Yen, who portrayed Yip Man, was great. He put Jet Li and Jackie Chan to shame while wiping Steven Segal off the map for once and for all – especially since he should have never been placed on it to begin with.

This film is highly recommended and will bring pure enjoyment back to Kung Fu fans and novices everywhere. A+ and 10 blades for an amazing film.
