Fiona: A Reason for Music

Album: The Bridge

Artist(s): Melanie Fiona

Official Drop Date: June 26, 2009

Blades: 9.5

Review: Like Jazmine Sullivan, Melanie Fiona is a singer worth listening to. This Canadian songstress has brought her smooth sounds to a game in need of talent. She seems to have taken a cue from the British Soul Invaders and brings a sound from the past with a nice twist. With a few strong actual singers in the game, Fiona stands out. The album kept my attention from start to finish and has joined the current fave list.

Tracks like “Bang Bang” and “Monday Morning” keeps the listener engaged. “You Stop My Heart” samples “Johnny Angel” from the 60s and is a great mix with her vocals and lyrics. “Sad Songs” seems to sample 70s reggae and asks who’s the ex loving since he broke out. “It Kills Me” tells the tale of a woman still holding out hope for an unfaithful man to change his ways and wondering if she should simply call it quits.

The album is a winner and gets 9.5 blades for a strong debut.
