Review: The movie I’ve been waiting for since July. The movie kicks off in Africa after the aliens stopped over Johannesburg. They were minding their own business when humans forced their way into the ship. Found the aliens and removed them from the ship and placed them in District 9. The aliens have been treated as evil and forced into a fucked up way of living. They have been given the name “prawn” to describe them as bottom feeders. Public pressures “told” the government to move them from the prison District 9 to a new prison. 1.8 million prawns were to be evicted. (Sound familiar so far?)
The government even has a new form that aliens must sign – the aliens cannot read English or write our way but they will “sign” a form? The prawns hit the forms and it counts as a signature. Only a retard would think this would work. Multi-National United (MNU). MNU is the agency doing alien relations and evictions and a worker, Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley), has been chosen to serve the 24-hr eviction notices. Wikus took pleasure in killing alien babies and is happy that “abortions” were done. Then they burn the bodies of the aborted to add insult to injury. The aliens were not the ones who wanted to go on Earth. But now humans are acting as if they have been invaded. The story has it that slums come with trouble yet it’s humans that created the slums.

Human technology is worthless to the aliens and it has been 20 years of work finding what they need. Wikus found the technology on his greedy expedition to find weapons. After stealing the technology he got sprayed with goo but is excited once he finds weapons. One of the aliens is murdered (as many of them are) as the mercenaries takes pleasure in shooting those who surrender. White people show their asses in this film. They asked the alien if he had a permit for his child, his own blasted child. After they realize that the alien knows he has rights, they threaten to take the child to social services on trumped up charges. (Sound familiar yet?)
Wikus begins to suffer side effects from the spray incident almost immediately. Not only has Wikus gotten sick, but he has also begun to change. The government is beginning to work against their own and the cover-up begins. Harvesting of Wikus starts as MNU sees Wikus as a means to an end. Lies were created and millions turned on Wikus. Now seen as a traitor Wikus must save himself and maybe the aliens. To help shift the insanity from the White people in the film, they show Negros doing voo-doo and eating alien body parts to “retain alien powers.”
Wikus was the epitome of selfish White people, because even after all he has been through the alien was the only one willing to help him. To leave the alien willing to help him and save himself with the technology while risking the life of the prawn and his son was all too familiar. Failing to fly the ship, Wikus was captured by the Negro rebels. At the end of the day Wikus got what was coming to him and the aliens are in no better of a situation for now.
The movie showed a story that is old and has been told in a variety of ways. From Chinese to Jews to Blacks and now aliens, the story remains unchanged as there will always be those who believe they have the right to tell people where to go and when. As Wikus suffered as the aliens did he saw things in a different light, even though he still had his moments of reverting back to the oppressive mentality he was indoctrinated with. His system turned against him and he became the hunted.

Film gets 7 blades for portrayal but the story remains the same, so no originality points. Saw it for $6 so no handcuffs handed out.

Kicking off this new segment for Bootlegged Reviews is the song Ah, Yeah! submitted by the indie artist, Flawless. This pop/dance single that has what it takes to get a party started and has a professional feel that many Indie projects lack. Coming from Queens, New York, Flawless shines on this track. Ashley Judd seems to have added her happy ass to the long list of folks in denial of the monster that their precious industry (the W.O.S.) has created. Judd has taken it upon herself to reiterate the obvious while ignoring the giant wizard puppeteer behind the puppets.
espite the truth that there are no set programs, more than half of the shows are unconfirmed, the first week or more have only been previews of what MIGHT be shown, and more than half of all television viewers have yet to see anything on the OWN Network, mainstream
2010 has been another year where the WOS Celebs have stepped their game up in the category of bullshit, hot mess, and sloppiness. Yesterday, two WOS young bloods were in battled in another Internet War of Words. Twitter has become the "safe zone" to attack folks behind a computer and have the fans directly involved. Instant bullshit brought to everyone's and anyone's computer screens - whether asked for it or not.
As many gleam over the multiple of things that has been added to her list of "deeds" which deed became her turning point. ... Negating her sexuality (that has little to do with her public actions as far as I'm concerned) what is really going on with her? ... She doesn't seem to read or comprehend some of the books she pushes through her "book club" being that two frauds have been discovered. She only "confronted" one of the frauds because the other media began to question her intelligence and if she and her cohorts even fact checked their information.
…different day.
i think the twist here is to make it seem that the humans (certain humans), are not the ones who are the aliens. deflecting once again. seems they are telling their own story, but trying to make it seem that they, humans (certain so called humans), are the indigenous ones to this planet. some know differently. the ones who are being called aliens in the film…? well, the writers should stop looking in the mirror…it might crack.
@ jaded:
Folks keep forgetting that most things talked about already happened. This film was another prime example… As they tell you to “get over” your history, they retell the story to their advantage. Each time making themselves more heroic/victimized than than remembered.
